Century-sponsered Event: Visiting Poet Cathryn Cofell

Poet Cathryn Cofell will be visiting Carroll on Thursday, November 6. At 7 p.m. in the Oak Room of the Campus Center, Cofell will read and discuss her work and answer questions.

Cofell is the author of five books, including "Sweet Curdle" and "Kamikaze Commotion," has received more than 30 awards and has had her poetry, essays, and articles appear in hundreds of journals and anthologies. She is a passionate advocate for the arts, having advised the Wisconsin governor for the creation of the state poet laureate, served as founding two-term chair for the Wisconsin Poet Laureate Commission and on the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets.

Come and welcome Cofell to Carroll and experience the work of a published poet!

Reading

On Tuesday, November 11th at 8 p.m. Century will be hosting the second reading of the year. It's set to take place in the PIT.

E-mail Nick or Chelsea if you're interested in reading; their e-mails are in a column to the right. If you're unsure about reading but decide you want to the night of, there will be an open-mic portion following the planned portion of the evening. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to present their work!

Century-sponsored Event: Being a Poet & Paying the Bills

Century Magazine, together with the Milwaukee Book Festival, presents a conversation with Waukesha native Jim Schley on his life, writing and how to make a living as a writer. Jim Schley is a distinguished poet and Director of Robert Frost Place in Vermont. Although he's a poet, he's interested in many genres and is open to any questions you may have.

Being a Poet & Paying the Bills will take place on Friday, October 10th, 2008 and run from 11 am - 12 noon in the Boardroom of the Campus Center. Come and learn tips to transform your passion for writing into a successfull career!
